The Christian Formation program at the Church of the Resurrection provides a variety of programs to promote spiritual growth and Christian discipleship. These programs take place at different times and places during the week; we seek to offer opportunities to all members of the parish family. We hope that you will review the available programs, enquire about programs that you are interested in, suggest programs that you would like to see added, and take a place as a student or leader in Christian Formation.
Sundays at Resurrection
Sundays at Resurrection offer traditional Christian Formation classes for children and adults. On Sunday mornings we offer our K4 through Grade 5 children a series of rotational classes developed by Learner Resources that provide children with a different activity each Sunday around a particular theme in the study of the Bible and the Church. These activities are led by a team of three teachers and last approximately 45 minutes. Each rotation lasts for one month. For our middle and high school students we offer weekly discussions using the Living the Good News curriculum which helps teens to address the decisions they make from a Christian foundation.
Adult Christian Formation on Sunday mornings offers a variety of classes that change throughout the church year. We may offer one, two, or three different classes centered on a Bible study, theology, prayer, a book study or special offerings for young parents or senior adults.
The Sunday morning offerings begin at 9:15 and last until 10:00.
On Sunday evenings the EYC meets in the EYC room in the Parish House. This is the primary offering for our middle and high school students. Led by Norm and Roxy Fawcett and Gratin and Adelaide Smith, EYC provides our youth with a variety of worship, work, and recreational experiences.
Wednesdays at Resurrection
Wednesday’s at Resurrection offer two opportunities for study and worship.
On Wednesday mornings at 10:45 AM, we offer a book study followed by noon Eucharist.
On Wednesday evenings we offer Eucharist and Bible study at 6:00 PM followed by supper at 6:35 PM. For our children during the Eucharist and Bible study, we offer on alternative weeks a Children’s Bible study or Children’s Choir.
Other opportunities for Spiritual growth and service
We offer a variety of other opportunities for your spiritual growth and service at Resurrection.
EFM (Education for Ministry). This is a four-year program from the School of Theology at Sewanee, designed for those seeking to serve Christ more deeply or who simply want to learn more about the Bible, church history, and theology. This group meets once a week at the church.
Vacation Bible School. Usually held the third week in June, VBS gives our younger children the opportunity to study, learn and play around a theme dealing with the life of Jesus and the growth of the Church. Bible school meets Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 12 Noon.
Episcopal Church Women. ECW is composed of three chapters that meet monthly for study, prayer, and fellowship. The women of the church also sponsor periodic special events, such as a recent fundraiser for our diocese’s water project in Haiti.
