Episcopal Youth (EYC) is our church’s youth group, with membership open to all 6 th through 12 th grade teens. We meet most Sunday evenings (during the school year) from 5:30 to 7:30 pm in our well-equipped, Parish House youth room. W e currently have 18-20 young people participating in our ministry. Our members are increasingly inviting their non-Resurrection friends to our meetings...a habit that we encourage and happily support.

The objectives and values of our youth group can be summarized in three categories:

To share a variety of Christian themed, life-based discovery subjects…we call them devotions…and we are always trying to find meaningful and interesting topics that our members can relate to in their everyday lives.

To serve God and our community through numerous outreach projects that includes local and out-of-town initiatives. Our members are often surprised how much fun working together can be…while, at the same time, helping others.

To make sure we save lots of time for fun and fellowship, including a shared meal, at each weekly meeting, sponsored by one of our member’s families.

To give a better idea of what these objectives look like by way of actual activities, here’s a sampling of some of the things we have done in recent years.

We traveled to Columbia (for the 8 th year in a row) to participate in a volunteer-driven HomeWorks project sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina. Our job was to work on a home of an elderly widow. We painted, repaired plumbing, strengthened a deck, cleaned up the yard, repaired a door and even cut down a tree.

We sold custom-made pewter Christmas ornaments with a rendering of our Church and, through the generous support of our parish families, were able to purchase and deliver Christmas gifts to the children of 28 needy Greenwood families.

During Lent, our EYC members worked on a project entitled, "Where I See God." Each member was given a disposable camera with the assignment to go out and take pictures of where they saw God in their everyday lives. The resulting posters were displayed in Bishops' Hall and the kids chose their favorite photos, which we published in a booklet that was offered to each family on Palm Sunday.

With the help of the Greenwood Sheriff’s Department, we had a session dealing with the issues and dangers of drug, alcohol and substance abuse.

On the fun front, we had a day of boating, tubing, jet-skiing and swimming on Lake Greenwood; we went to the movies and bowling; and, as has become our annual tradition, we took our tenth annual trip to the beach, where twenty of us spent a week in a beach house sharing fun, Christian fellowship, and God's love.

Father Beasley has regularly attended one Sunday meeting each month to pray, to share, to teach, to learn, to listen and to discuss almost anything the kids wanted to talk about.

Our current volunteer youth leaders are Dr. Gratin and Adelaide Smith (both local medical professionals) and Norm and Roxy Fawcett, who have been working with teen-aged youth organizations for over 15 years.

We are thankful for the many blessings that God has given us, but we are mostly thankful for a great group of young people who participate in our activities on a regular basis. We are certainly looking forward to welcoming our many elementary school-aged children in the coming years, as they enter the sixth grade…we hope you will come and give us a try.
